About
My name is Mike Orton
I offer Project Management and facilitator skills to develop a bespoke Telecare and Telehealth service strategy, through to implementation and recruitment of staff to suit the clients requirements.
Experienced in working with Local Authorities (10 years working for a Social Services Dept. assessing for AT and managing their Mobility Showroom and Lifestyle Centre), PCTs, Third Sector Organizations and manufacturers of AT in a consultative approach. As an example I produced and wrote a Strategy for providing an integrated Telecare service across the County of one of the Home Counties. This strategy examined future potential demand for telecare and provided a gap analysis of current provision and made recommendations as to future direction and how a service could be integrated.
I began the implementation process by identifying Partners, setting up Working Groups for three projects I identified: Falls including an innovative physical response service assisting fallers to their feet using a third sector partner to provide the injury assessment and manual handling expertise, Telehealth and a Dementia project in which I supplied stand-alone technology assessment kits to offer support to service users and their carers. It also included recruitment of a Telecare Commissioning Manager, Project Officer and a Telecare Technician. This provided continuity, capacity and momentum for the Telecare service to move forward.
I developed their smart flat to incorporate the latest Telecare sensors together with supplying a wide range of stand-alone technology and if you view the Complementary AT section – an innovative riser recliner chair solution for incorporating pressure warning pads in an unobtrusive way to alert carers/monitoring services, so maintaining the original appearance of the chair together with the dignity of the person using the chair.
Creating awareness of what technology is available to users and their carers is important. I supplied Telecare demonstration and stand-alone technology kits to a carers organization for them to take on road shows to demonstrate the benefits of this technology.
Recently carried out an AT Product and Market Review on behalf of a client and wrote up a report with analysis of their current product range, comparison and contrast with competitor products, suggestions and signposting to potential Partners.
Recently worked closely with a large Independent Living Centre undertaking a Review of their current activities, identifying and making suggestions and recommendations as to future direction.
I have many years practical experience of working within the Assistive Technology field and in particular Electronic Assistive Technologies such as Telecare, Telehealth and Environmental Control Technology, together with an MSc in Assistive Technology from Kings College London.
I can undertake Telecare awareness training, develop smart flats, etc.
